Atlantic College Galway (directly opposite the new coach station in Fairgreen) has announced details of an extensive range of innovative Computers/IT (information technology) programmes to cater for a broad range of needs. There are courses for students of every type:
The College’s Computers/IT programme kicks off later this month with what has been described as a ‘course long waiting to happen’ – Technology for College Success.
This course fills a gap in the market providing the necessary IT skills which are a prerequisite for success at third-level. To succeed and excel, students need to be able to use technology flexibly, creatively and imaginatively. Students who may not be up-to-speed can find themselves at a disadvantage. The Technology for College Success programme will run over 2 weeks, 3 hours per day for 10 days. Topics covered include: the use Microsoft Word to produce high-quality assignments; efficient use of the internet to carry out academic research; using Moodle VLE (virtual learning environment); the design and creation of presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint; budgeting for college life using Microsoft Excel; and a range of other IT topics required by college students.
If you are planning a return to education, are new to the Irish educational system, or if you have a child who is planning to go to college, then the Technology for College Sucssess course will be of benefit. Places are limited to 10 participants to allow for individual support and coaching.
The Computers/IT programme continues with a series of workshops designed to meet the needs of the self-employed, SME-owners and business mangers who are already using Social Media to engage customers but have no clear plan and those who would like to understand what Social Media is all about and how it can benefit their business. There are a series of workshops starting, namely Social Media: How-to-Toolkit and How to Create and Distribute Online Video - both of which are attracting a lot of interest. These workshops can be booked as once-offs or as part of a series.
Atlantic College Galway already delivers a range of IT-related courses including the Certificate in Manual and Computerised Accounting/SAGE, Certificate in Computerised Payroll/SAGE, Certificate in Internet marketing, and Certificate in eBusiness (all fully accredited FETAC level 5 awards).
Atlantic also has a full range of courses in the areas of childcare, nursing studies, care of the older person, healthcare studies, training (train-the-trainer), supervisory management, accounting (ACCA), human resource management (CIPD) and business. Some of these courses are now offered through the College’s blended learning programme (combination of classroom and home/web-based study). Students opting for blended learning have been encouraged by the time and money they save by reducing travel and other costs.
